The Naturist Society:
June 17th-19th we went to the annual Naturist Society (TNS) Eastern Assembly that took place at a big campground in northern PA. It was our first time attending this event in addition to a couple hundred folks, and we had a fairly great time.
This week-long gathering consists of group discussions and seminars on various naturist / naturist issues and in addition enjoyable leisure activities such as the dances at night, a tye-dying session, and swimming and kayaking at the enormous lake. The food was okay and served 3 times/day in a huge hall. We tented again, but additionally, there are cottages. On our first night, there was a talent show of varied performances, of which my favorite was the two-man duet with “Enrique Iglesias” and “Whitney Houston.” This was followed by Oneg Shabat (the Jewish welcoming service of the Sabbath) with several people and a pajama-themed dance party. (I believed the Jewish Sabbath thing was actually random, though it really is a Jewish camp.)
On Saturday night it was a Halloween theme dance with some amusing costumes. All in all there really few folks in their 20s/30s, but this really is no occasion made for young people. (Young folks don’t desire a workshop on how to use their iPhone for example.)
Yet this is not to say there were not lots of fascinating folks to meet and talk to, such as those who are involved in the Naturist Action Committee, and we were not disappointed with the NAC’s seminars and others about naturism. We attended talks about children and naturism, “making waves” with NAC and on the future of naturism. Questions of the role of young folks in naturism came up. ie, Why do young folks appear to be losing in the movement? How can we reach out to them? These are questions we have also had to ask ourselves!
If you have been a naturist for a number of years, can you think young people are missing? It was said that even those who are introduced to naturism when they’re young appear to take a break beginning with the faculty years up to their 30s, and then some end up going back to it (at least we hope they do.) But are there plenty of young naturists out there? Does anyone know of any school besides Yale that has or had nonsexual naked parties? I am wondering if naturism has almost any presence at many colleges
